Hi, I’m Julia!
In my previous life as an interior designer I developed an understanding of the importance and impact of art - in homes, workplaces and public spaces. Art has the ability to uplift, inspire, bring peace, harmony or joy to our environments.
The art that I make is an attempt to communicate my fascination with our multi-dimensional reality. Looking deeply to find what is hidden, what is underneath, what is behind what we see and touch. I want to discover what connects us to one another, and the world around us. For me, the inner life is at the heart of my art. It’s a visual communication about how I perceive and respond to the reality we live in.
All of my work begins with photographs. I’m drawn to close observation of natural elements: rocks, water, skies, grass; and also abstracted views of man-made elements: cracks in the pavement, crumbling stucco, textures formed over time. These photographs are then edited and combined to form composite images, a new vision of disparate elements, an attempt to reassemble what I see into a beautiful whole.
The work is then made into prints, or more recently, transferred onto textiles to become part of broader, mixed media works. These latest works include hand-dyed fabrics, inks, plaster, earth pigments and stitch.
This website, along with my work, is evolving, and I will be sharing these works and offering them for sale soon!
